Kundalini is the sacred Fire Serpent of spiritual evolution. The medical
symbol, the caduceus, is an icon of fully awakened Kundalini, with the two
Fire Serpents uncoiled around the staff of the spine where the Shakti
energy rises up the central channel. This rising energy is often felt as
heat, tingling or vibrations. The caduceus is topped with the round halo of
the crown chakra at the top of the head. The wings are part of the heart
chakra. The serpents form a giant helix, like DNA. Kundalini is the
creative, evolutionary energy of Cosmic Consciousness that gave you birth,
directed up the spine into the head, rather than outward to procreate,
create life. We evolve by giving birth. The Kundalini process evolves us,
by changing the direction of the energy, inward to give birth to a new you.

Kundalini and serpents are historically associated with healing, from the
caduceus to the Brazen Serpent Moses set up in the desert to heal the
Hebrews. I have known people who appeared to become 20 years younger as the
process did its work, and it is common for old injuries to reappear, only
to be healed more completely. People have reported that their actual DNA
has been changed by the process. For some, the healing happens more on the
emotional, mental and spiritual levels: Kundalini encompasses all.

The symbolism of Kundalini appears in many serpents of mythology, from the
Rainbow serpent of the Australian aborigines, to the feathered Serpent of
the Maya. Serpents represent the instinctive wisdom of the body and
intuition rising into conscious awareness.

On old sailing maps when there was an area of sea still uncharted, the
cartographers would write Here be Dragons", and draw serpents frolicking in
the waves. Kundalini serpents are represented by Leviathan the serpent of
the Earth's power and wisdom, in the dragons of the unknown, the deep
mysteries of earth and sea rising to be faced by the conscious individual
on the warrior path, or what Joseph Campbell would call "the heroes journey."

Kundalini is the great unknown, unknowable. Awakened people often dream of
serpents, water and other archetypal symbolism: the language of the
unconscious mind. The surface of the sea represents the boundary between
the conscious and unconscious mind, in dreams and mythology.

The Serpent is the most ancient symbol for the Earth. Science has
discovered that people who do spiritual healing, go into a state where
their body's energy field is matched with the Schumann resonance, the
magnetic field of the earth itself. Dead planets, like Mars do not have a
magnetic field. The source of the magnetic field of the Earth is the
electrical charge of friction on the fiery crystal of super compressed iron
spinning in the center of the earth, which we form a connection to with the
essential practice of Grounding.

Along with health, the serpent is the symbol for rebirth, and immortality
because it sheds its skin. A serpent with its tail in its mouth: the
Ouroborus, is the symbol for the wheel of life, the turning of the seasons.
It is a symbol for how life eats life, the food chain.

According to ancient texts, achievement of Kundalini awakening would to
take years/lifetimes of spiritual work and meditation, but in these modern
times, Kundalini awakening has become a worldwide phenomena. Many people
are awakening spontaneously, without any preparation on how to handle what
has been called the most powerful and potentially dangerous force in the
universe. Those who experience spontaneously awakening often fear they are
going insane. This fear may be falsly validated by psychiatic professionals
who are unfamiliar with awakening phenomena. What Jungian psychiatrist Dr.
Stanislav Grof calls "spiritual emergency."

Kundalini seeks to purify the body to become a temple of the Soul, the
Divine. To accomplish this it works through the unconscious mind to resolve
or release all the limiting beliefs of the mind, the fears, scars and
emotional baggage of trauma held in the body. All the things that are
holding you back from manifesting your Divine potential. In order to expand
your consciousness, the barriers and fears of limiting beliefs must be
dismantled gently as your karma dissolves.

Kundalini awakening can appear as madness, with visions, uncontrollable
physical sensations and extravagant psychic phenomena. It isn't something
to be forced, as trying to force the process is really a way of resisting
the process, not trusting that the Infinite mind that guides the process,
knows what it is doing without your interference.

People who seek awakening because they want power, give me a mental cartoon
image of Wile E. Coyote and the ACME steamroller of unconditional love. As
soon as you see him messing with it, you know he will end up squashed.
Rolled out flat like a pie crust
 that's his karma.

Don't seek Kundalini awakening unless you are genuinely ready to turn your
life over to the path of your Soul, because resisting the awakening process
once it has started, causes the energy to push back harder in its efforts
to clear a path for itself. It is infinite, you are not so who wins? Going
to war with your Kundalini is a very bad idea.

The best thing to do, is to learn to get out of the way and let Goddess
get on with it. The best way to smooth the process is to trust in the
Infinite Wisdom that guides it. Have faith, and surrender control. The
river knows where it is going
 to merge with the sea.

The Kundalini is not something separate, outside of you, although it may
seem that way to your mind. It is the greater Cosmic mind, that you are a
part of. It is you, the part of you that is infinite, infinitely wise,
unconditionally loving, and outside of time.

The ego seeks to place trust in what it knows: How do we define the
infinite, unknowable that is our essential Self? It is like the wind, we
cannot see it but we can feel it, and see its effects on our environment.
We can observe the effects on the people who are experiencing awakening,
and see commonalities throughout the world's religions and mythologies.

While there is very little scientific research on the effects of Kundalini,
many benefits have been reported by experiencers:

Improved health. Kundalites find they catch colds and flu less often, and
with less severity. Wounds and bruises heal more quickly. Old injuries may
reappear, to be healed more completely a second time.
Increased intelligence. The Kundalini process can increase IQ scores by as
much as 30%.
Greater personal fulfillment.
Increased peace and well being.
Improved interpersonal relationships.
Improved intuition, psychic abilities, synchronicity.
Expansion of consciousness.

While most religions make reference to this energy of spiritual awakening,
it is the Sanskrit term *Kundalini*, and other Sanskrit terms describing
this phenomena, which are the most descriptive and comprehensive, while
remaining adaptable to most religious or spiritual paths. The Kundalini
path is a Yoga, not a religion. It is a transformative process that occurs
on all levels: body, mind and spirit.

The Christian version is the fiery descent of the Holy Spirit, which would
be defined as a "top-down" awakening in terms of the chakras. Some people
first experience a "Spiritual awakening" with paranormal experiences, and
psychic powers. They may begin to be aware of energy and spirits as the
higher chakras open and the energy makes its way down to the lower chakras.
These awakenings tend to be more peaceful, but sometimes do not lead to
waking the Kundalini serpents at the root chakra, at the base of the spine.
It is the awakening of the Kundalini which integrates the spiritual
experiences into the "Chop wood carry water" of normal daily life.

One seeks to first gently awaken the Fire Serpent (dormant
spiritual/evolutionary energy), where it sleeps coiled three and one half
times at the base of the spine (the root chakra, or Kundalini) and then
induce it to uncoil inside oneself, releasing energy as it goes and opening
the Chakras, until it's fiery head pokes out through the crown chakra,
signifying enlightenment.

Thus, enlightened beings are often portrayed with a halo of light coming
from the crown of the head. Self Realization comes later, when the
Kundalini turns around and descends back into the body, bringing the
non-dual insights of the crown, (Love is all that Is) down into your day to
day physical life. Learning to see Divine perfection in where you are at,
here and now in every moment of your life on this good earth.

This final integration of the body with the spiritual energy is sometimes
called "Ascension" because Kundalini working its way back down through the
chakras causes the body's vibration to rise. As the body's vibration
increases it gets easier to see perfection because synchronicities make
every day a lucky day. What begins as learning to surrender and "go with
the flow" comes out the other side to live your daily life, surfing on a
wave of spiritual energy that will carry you wherever your soul desires.

Chakras are like the organs of your spiritual/energy body. There are
thousands of chakras throughout the body, however most focus is given to 7
major chakras that run in a line down the centre of the body, from crown to
tail bone. We have a rainbow of lights, within. Each of the chakras is
associated with an aspect of being: The crown chakra is concerned with
universal oneness, the relationship with the all. Next is the third eye,
which is associated with psychic perception, next, the throat chakra, which
is concerned mostly with communication... and so on. The root chakra, from
whence the Kundalini Serpents rise, is associated with nature itself, with
your connection to the planet and your life as a spiritual being in a human
body. It is associated with survival as a species and procreation, but
also with the wisdom of the Earth, the instinctual wisdom of nature.

Many spontaneously awakened people wonder "Why me?" and "Why now?" then go
on to make themselves some mythology of specialness or sin and second
chances, or of Armageddon and saving the world. Let go of all of that,
because those ideas are ego resistance in disguise. Instead ask yourself,
"Why not me?" Goddess sees you as infinite and perfect, and in that realm,
there is nothing but Now.

Gopi Krishna, among others, have attributed the increase in awakening to an
evolutionary process of our consciousness expanding to balance the lethal
potential of our technology. I don't like to give energy to such fears,
they are resistance.

I find truth, in simplicity. Most people awaken, because they asked for it
somehow
they may not have known that Kundalini would be the answer to that
wish or prayer! So is life; even when we get what we desire, things do not
turn out like we expect. People often awaken through trauma of some kind,
because it is when we are down that we are more likely to surrender, to
wish for a higher power to intervene in our lives.
