I still don't have Internet connectivity at home.  I started to look at the 
tea room archives (that I enjoy), but the word files don't work for me 
because I don't have access to word at work.  I'm still not too clear on how 
you want the student experiences to be printed.  Also, I haven't been able 
to see the word documents you already have worked on. I have a couple of 
questions:

What's the format you want them on?

Do you want just the student experiences or your reply or both?

Do you want them to be edited or just copied as they are?

Do you want me to ask the students for permission for including their 
experiences in the course?

I am working on the 2nd set of 12 lessons. I'm 1/2 along. I'm averaging
4 hours per lesson. Sandra

The steps I take are:

1. Read FST lesson.

2. Open all links in Firefox tabs.

3. Start .TXT file, type out all broken links.

4. Open webarchival.com, one at a time enter broken link.

5. Search thru sub-links on webarchival & multiple archive entries
through the years (often the documents are from late 1990s, early
2000s).

6. If page found, Save As, update .TXT with name of Save As & Article
Title. If page not found - get an idea from Title on what might be
suitable as a substitute link, skip to #12.

7. Search for author name and author email, update .TXT.

8. Validate author email & name, and potential current hosting of same
file - open Google, and search for variations on Article Title, Author
Name, Author Email.

9. If direct hit for current posting, pull that page, Save As, update
.TXT. Search for an updated author email, update .TXT with results.

10. If not found immediately, read article referenced.

11. then, Search sites that look promising because original authors may
have buried it in their own archives, named it slightly different, have
modified it slightly, etc. (This step takes the longest time, many
different leads based on clues & knowledge gained from reading
article.) 

13. If current posting still not found, or original never found at all
- start a new search for quality links, essays, sites. (This step is
often already done, if keeping tabs open in Firefox during #11.) Note
article note found in .TXT.

14. If new substitute/suggested article found, generate new listing in
.TXT, with Article Name, Author, Email, Link, and Name of Save As File.

15. Repeat #5 thru 14 for every broken link in lesson.

16. Upload finished .TXT & all Save As HTML to FTP.

I like it. I would like for the navmenu and the title to be a little 
smaller. Lets make the links italic too.

   The palantino text came up looking really wierd on druid's linux/firefox 
computer. The letters were all different sizes like a cartoon script. I 
think it  is because the font size is px instead of the standard  size 
1-2-3 etc.

That I don't know what to do. I have no computer with linux  nor firefox
to test it.

If you set size as below, it will change the font size according to viewers
browser font size setting.

It means font size can besiclly anything. It mean it can mess up the 
layout.

On the other hand if you set the font size in px or point or whatever 
actuall
measurement then it will alway shows in that measurement. It means the
viewer can have browser font size setting as "large" 22px font still show 
as

   Perfect! Palantino italic is beautiful. I like it that the links match 
the lesson title, very smooth.

   Yeah, it is OK. He sent me a screen capture but it came out very jpeggy 
and hard to read.

    Yup, I know. It is an ongoing war between web designers and users. Web 
designers want absolute control even though browser variations make it 
impossible,  and users want to be able to adjust the page for their reading 
comfort.  Resizeable text means elderly and visually handicapped readers 
can adjust the font to something they can see, and that is important for 
the main content of the page.

     I split the difference.

     Layout only matters for titles, footer and the navlinks, they can 
remain px.

    The regular text: essay, transcript, experiences, quotes and links need 
to be resizeable because we already do have visually handicapped members. 
We have one member in England who is legally blind and uses an audio reader 
program!  I think the current layout might be a problem for him, and he 
cannot see the layout anyway!! ... but there will be a printable, text only 
version in future. Not this week!

   In fact, there is legislation coming,  that if approved will require web 
pages to be accessable to the visually handicapped... just like how 
restaurants are required to have one wheelchair accessable toilet, and 
ramps or elevators.  That means resizeable fonts and descriptive alt tags 
on all images. I already have the alt tags.

   Making the essay text, etc. resizeable won't affect the layout because 
the text windows won't become wider, they will just wrap more and become 
longer. The text windows in the main, center column resize with the browser 
window anyway.

   I know you are busy so I will try to be laser, regarding overall changes 
to the design:

    The basic palantino text font for the essay is the new default body 
font.  I'd like it to be a little larger than it is now. I  like members to 
be able to sit back and relax, to read instead of peering with their nose 
in the monitor.

   I think size 3 might be about right, when the browser font is set at 
medium.  The space between lines of text could be smaller, I dunno why 
palantino defaults to that big line spacing... I realize not all browsers 
will accept line spacing css.

   The experiences text font can remain times new roman at about the 
current size, but not px. On some pages where I have quoted something from 
the tea room, my words are italic, that is intentional.

   The homework gets changed to the same font as the essay, (palantino is 
the new body text default) not sure if it should remain bold. Lets leave it 
bold for now, see how it looks.

The transcript font can remain italic, but how does it look in palantino?

  The quotes font can be a little bigger, remain as Times, and blue but not 
px.

   (I don't know why that one quote "the feminist agenda" is so huge, it 
needs to match the others. I know in some places a larger quote is what I 
wanted, but that one looks silly.)

   Instead of having the author credit a different size, it can be the 
quote font except black and italic. That way we can just use the font 
style="quote" at the top of the quotes box to cpver all the content and 
just add font color="#000000"  align center or right, and italic to the 
author names.

   The "Experiences links" box on the right side column is going away. 
Delete it. The experiences links within the box go to the bottom of the 
main experiences text window as an unordered list with the target opening 
in a new window.

   The navlinks on the left side of the footer need to be converted to 
palantino italic to match the links above it in that column.  The next 
lesson, etc. above the footer will remain as gifs.

   I want the "Contact" link by the footer to go to the myst.html 
appointments page instead of pointing to the contact page.

   The Grounding link is Grounding not Groundings, take the S off the end, 
and it goes to the grounding on the preview pages,  not skipping ahead to 
lesson 7. We could even create a separate grounding page, as going to the 
preview confused some people.

   The "Book mark this page" at the top of the footer needs to be a little 
bigger than the other footer content. (+1)

   Now that we no longer have mousovers, the preload array can go bye bye.

   We can also go back to the original navlink colours, with purple on 
click and blue.. where was the blue?

   I want one line of blank space at the top and bottom of each text window 
to give a visual break.

    The essay box has the effect I want at the top but there is no break at 
the bottom. The homework box has the break I want at the top but I want the 
same size break at the bottom. Right now there are two lines of space there.

   I realize some of this can be done all at once with CSS or search and 
replace, and other bits like removing the experiences links box can be done 
as each page is completed.

    It really is an awful job, I know... I appreciate you are doing it, 
thank you. I am going to think on how I can streamline the process for you.

    I know it took me bloody forever when I tried to do it, even longer 
than it is taking you, but partly because I am very distractible some days.

   I also discovered some links were not so precious ... not worth 
recovering, but that is subjective. I did not locate all the links 
originally, percyval and my Tribe gathered most of them. I discovered a few 
from my own lightworker phase, which I deleted.

     Hillary sort of did part of it already, maybe you did not see that 
email? I thought she emailed you directly as well as posting to the list.

    I think she just went through the pop-up files and redirected broken 
links to the wayback machine, and deleted ones that could not be recovered, 
but she did not search google for replacements or archive them. I searched 
google first, when I tried it, and wayback second.

   I came across a beautiful link for the matgod lesson yesterday:

   I also have a folder of links collected over the years, but they are not 
in any sort of order to indicate what lesson I intended them for, and some 
of them might have already been added when I created the FSTlinks page a

   Hello:

   What lesson of the course are you on now, yourself?  With your own 
progress through the course?

    I have added some experiences to some of the lessons already. It just 
sort of naturally flowed out of editing the lessons, I would remember 
threads from the tea room that came up over the years. Often I was looking 
for snippets of my own writing to add to the essay, knowing I had written 
the content before and not wanting to write it out again.

  I have the google search on my computer, so it did not take long to 
search my hard drive for tea room archives and other essay snippets, and it 
looked through some K-list archives too.

    My format is to paste the one or two best ones from the tea room into 
the "experiences" text window and link to others.  In one case I summarized 
a K-list question from another member and posted my response, instead of 
trying to track him down to ask permission.

   I have blanket permission to use the tea room posts and/or grad essays 
of a few members, like Gustaf and Troy.  I also used some of my own 
experiences, or wrote them out.

    I did not ask consent for all of them. Lazy! Hyperfocused on the 
writing, not wanting to distract with writing emails.  I changed the 
usernames instead!  I feel I ought to ask permission, just did not have 
patience for it at the time.   Eventually FST will become a book, including 
the experiences I used, so I will need consent for that, but the links 
won't be part of it.

   I think the thing to do might be to go to the updated lessons as Sachiko 
gets the DONE word docs pasted into the new lesson forms. That way you can 
see them as html, and also see what experiences have been added.

    The other option I considered was to go through the tea room archives 
year by year, making note of the best posts and what lesson they were about.

  Then go through that list,  lesson by lesson and select the best for 
adding to the lesson content. I don't feel it is necessary to ask 
permission to link to a tea room post from a lesson, only to add the text 
to the lesson itself.

   With the tea room posts I usually chose the best of a thread, and 
sometimes added links to the rest of the thread at the bottom. I am keeping 
with the format of my writing italicized.

I've attached an example, the new earthsky lesson. You will see an 
experience added, and also an incomplete link at the bottom. The 
experiences links sort of need to be whole http:// links not relative 
links, for them to work on the FST CD later.
   I did not ask permission from that student, yet.

I did note the work as you've described by both you & Hillary to the
1st dozen lesson links. While my focus is currently on the 2nd dozen
links, if I find that a link successfully directed or redirected, or
deleted, then none of my attention goes there.

weeks, also find sometimes messages I posted never reach the list (or at
least don't come back to me) and miss other's messages too as I see
someone's reply to a message that didn't reach me. 

I'm not sure if it's my server (UK) thinking the list messages are from a
spam relay (or blacklisted) Internet address. Interestingly I do get the
membership disabled notice.

I hope I haven't missed anything important. We are still working on the last stuff
for the workshop here in Sweden, and it wouldn't be good if I have missed something
regarding the fliers, posters and stuff like that, since we need to get them out soon!
 
I am heading to Gavle again the next weekend, and I am hoping to have the final fliers
and posters ready by then so we can put it up there and give a bunch to Matthias as 
well.

Well, I suppose I should be glad its not just me then, huh? :-)
Unfortunately, it seems that the problem that I'm having is because my
outgoing mail server has to be set to my ISP's outgoing mail server,
rather than the email account's outgoing mail server, and the ISP is one
that I've just discovered is reknown for the number of spammers who use
the service, therefore the domain often gets blacklisted. :P
 
I went and started a new email account and everything, but I can't get
around the problem without using web mail instead of my email program,
and that just irritates me. But, I'm stuck with it until we can find a
better ISP to switch to. :P
 
Anyway, if you don't get responses from me on things, might want to
check on them once in a while, and let me know you haven't gotten
anything so I can try and resend it.

  I think it is connected to the unbelievable numbers of spammers who are 
forging my domains for their return address, these days.

    There is nothing I can do about it, the only reason I know about it, is 
I get about a hundred bounce reports from dead addresses from the spammers 
list, as well as out of office reply's requests to be removed from the spam 
list, notices from yahoo lists that I am not a member.. etc. every day. 
Unbelievable amount of junk mail that is generated by stupid spammers and 
their weasely ways. The return address is always some random letters @ one 
of my domains.

   Many older anti spam programs ban by domain, the modern ones ban by IP 
address. So I think the bounce reports are due to my domains showing up as 
spam sources by old stupid anti spam programs that don't look at the real 
source.

    I have yet to collect the info the provider wants, to be able to 
research the problem, but I think it is connected to the spam. Weekends 
especially, the spam becomes a flood.

   However, not getting the emails is unworkable. There is a bulletin board 
alternate I have suggested would work better than the list because things 
can be archived more easily, but you folks seem resistant to switching.

Since I liked this option:

I'll start looking at the archives year by year.  And I'll either e-mail or 
copy to a document whatever I feel it's relevant fo the lessons.   Also, I 
can look at all the lessons because I graduated from the course already.  :)

Actually I seem to get all the "helper" list mail.  It's only K-list  mail

replying to myself....

We should NOT set the font-size in px or any actual measurement
with number. (19px, 21point, etc)

font-size : 12px;

But!

We can set them like this..

font-size : small;
(x-small , large, x-large etc)

OR

Have a font tag directly in a page instead of setting up in CCS.
Like this...
<font size="4"> content </font>
(-1, +2, 5 or whatever)

Now, tell me which one you like.

You won't have that much control with these settings but viewer
will be changing the font size anyway....

For some reasons I am having difficulty concentrating on FST stuff...

I was having personal problem recently and had very difficule time
accepting the changes that was happening... and I think it was
because of the resistance I had, but for some reasons I couldn't
even open FST stuff.

Font size 3 will actually make the font smaller that what we have now
which is 19px. Size 4 is about the same but slightly smaller than 19px.

the same size as "large".

Rest is set "mediun" in CCS.
