The sync problem comes when the videos are imported into an editor (like
Vegas) The video editor tends to simply drop the frames that are
skipping, causing a sync problem.. Which in mild cases is easy to remedy
by shifting the audio manually at every point it happens

Converting from VHS may probably help, yes. There will definitely be a
quality loss, but at least I can keep the audio from the original DV
tapes.

That's what I was thinking too. It's probably best to wait with that,
until I can give you a complete list with the videos that are
problematic. It's quite possible we can use workshop videos as well. Not
sure how the picture and sound quality are on them, but we can
definitely give them a shot.

It does look bad, at least for those where it happens a lot. The idea
though is to use the same videos for internet as for the DVD, but with
different quality settings.

Sounds like a good idea!

What do you need the formats for?
